The standoff between Mumbai airport operator Mumbai International Airport Ltd and airlines over the proposed reduction of capacity at Terminal 2 has resurfaced, with airlines raising fresh concerns over the airport operator’s approach following a conciliatory meeting on October 13.
Airlines say MIAL’s latest email, dated October 16, contradicts the spirit of the assurance given at the October 13 meeting that the proposed transition linked to Terminal 1 redevelopment would be handled through a collaborative and consultative process.
Mumbai airport: The truce, the relief and the unresolved T1 transitionThe next meeting scheduled on October 28 with all stakeholders was expected to focus on consultation and deliberations on the proposed traffic relocation.
However, airlines say MIAL’s latest communication appears to focus on finalising transition plans for the Summer 2027 schedule, while key concerns raised by them remain unaddressed.
In its email, MIAL asked airlines to engage with its network planning and commercial teams to finalise the proposed reallocation of 5 million passengers per annum of international traffic from Mumbai airport’s Terminal 2. The proposed plan is to be presented at the October 28 stakeholder meeting.
