BEST is set to add 74 electric buses to its fleet, with 24 from PMI Electro Mobility expected to enter service next week and 50 from Olectra Greentech to follow within days, subject to regulatory clearances. Another 62 buses are planned at a later stage, a senior BEST official told Mirror.
BEST had around 2,800 buses as of September 2026. Of these, 249 were owned by the undertaking, while approximately 2,551 were operated by private contractors under wet-lease arrangements.
The Olectra vehicles are awaiting the completion of formalities, including inspections and clearances from the Regional Transport Office (RTO), before deployment.
Trushna Vishwasrao, head of the BEST Committee, said the buses were stationed at various depots, including Wadala, Magathane and Anushakti Nagar.
Some of the other buses are waiting for clearance. A few are at the Magathane and Anushakti Nagar BEST depots,” Vishwasrao told Mirror.
