Mumbai’s construction and demolition waste collection has risen by about 46 per cent on a comparable January–September basis in 2026, as the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation intensifies registration, vehicle tracking and enforcement against unauthorised debris disposal.
The civic body said approximately 2.06 lakh metric tonnes of C&D waste was collected between January 1 and October 18, while around 2.01 lakh metric tonnes was processed during the same period. The quantity collected has already exceeded the approximately 1.69 lakh metric tonnes recorded during the entire calendar year 2025.
The measures are being implemented under the guidance of the High Power Committee overseeing air pollution mitigation in Mumbai. The BMC said the framework is intended to ensure that debris generated at construction and demolition sites is transported through designated channels and delivered to authorised processing or unloading facilities.
The civic body is using the Mumbai Debris Control and Tracking System, or MDCTS, to register construction sites and stakeholders involved in debris generation and transportation. It has instructed all civic wards to identify and register private, government, semi-government and municipal construction and demolition sites.
