Surat police have arrested Dr Nirali Vasave, the fourth doctor named in the alleged abetment of suicide case involving Dr Harsh Pandya, bringing all four accused into custody nearly 80 days after Pandya was found dead at his accommodation on the New Civil Hospital campus.
Police registered the case at Khatodara police station on August 15, six days after Pandya was found dead. The case followed a complaint by his father, Dr Subhash Pandya, and was registered under provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act.
The invocation of the SC/ST Act led to the investigation being handed over to Assistant Commissioner of Police Z R Desai. The supplied report does not detail the specific allegations against each accused or provide the contents of the complaint. The allegations remain subject to investigation and legal proceedings.
Three other accused doctors—Dr Dishita Ghewaria, Dr Hina Bhut and Dr Anuj Maheshwari—were arrested in the second week of October, according to the report. Police had said the four accused were evading arrest before they were taken into custody. Three of them had also approached the Gujarat High Court seeking relief but did not secure it, the report said.
