Surat: Applications from 627 textile manufacturing units in different segments were approved under the Gujarat govt’s Textile Policy in Surat district on Saturday.
The approvals were granted at a meeting chaired by district collector Tejas Parmar with officials of the District Industries Centre, during which files related to the weaving, technical textile and embroidery sectors were approved.
Officials said 627 applications have been cleared to promote fresh investment in Surat’s textile ecosystem. The approved projects entail estimated investments of Rs 1,521 crore. Over the next five years, these units are expected to receive around Rs 300 crore in govt support through a mix of interest assistance, power tariff subsidy and capital subsidy.
The policy is also expected to strengthen employment generation, with more than 3,500 jobs to be created through the approved units. Special assistance has been announced to boost activities covered under “Activity 1”, officials added.
Gujarat’s Textile Policy 2024 came into force on Oct 1, 2024, and will be effective till Sept 30, 2029. Under the framework, Activity 1 includes garments, apparel, made-ups and technical textiles, while Activity 2 covers weaving, knitting, dyeing-processing, texturising, twisting and embroidery.
