Surat: The Gujarat government is intensifying its crackdown on food adulteration, particularly targeting duplicate ghee, paneer, cheese, and butter ahead of the Diwali festivities. Health Minister Praful Pansheriya announced stringent legal action against manufacturers and sellers who compromise public health, emphasizing that no one involved in such practices would be spared.
During a high-level virtual review meeting with Food and Drugs Department officials and district health officers from Surat, Pansheriya highlighted ongoing actions against companies using adulterated ingredients like palm oil in food products. He specifically warned against misleading packaging that labels palm oil-based products as 'ghee', stating that legal cases would be filed against such manufacturers.
The minister stressed the government's commitment to ensuring food safety and hygiene. He directed officials to enforce strict compliance with hygiene standards and SOPs in hotels, restaurants, and food streets. Pansheriya also warned that those found transporting goods after breaking seals would face FIRs with police assistance. This proactive measure aims to ensure pure and wholesome food for citizens, with the minister expressing confidence that Gujarat would set an example in food quality and hygiene.
