Dahanu (Thane District): Power utility major Reliance Energy Limited (REL) has claimed that it can expand the capacity of its Dahanu power plant to generate an additional 1200 MW of power exclusively for Mumbai city within 18 months of getting all the necessary official approvals.
Speaking to visiting journalists at the Dahanu Thermal Power station (DTPS), REL’s Executive Director and CEO Lalit Jalan stated that the firm has already got the land and the necessary infrastructure in place to generate the additional power over and above the current 500-MW capacity.
Most of the required infrastructure, like the jetty and the technology, is already ready. The additional power generation cost would be just around Rs 2 per unit which is also reasonable,” Jalan said.
The plan is to use ‘super-critical technology’ for the additional 1200 MW of power on the remaining land.
