Two passengers were booked for allegedly assaulting and manhandling a ticket-checking staff member at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CSMT) after they were asked to produce valid travel tickets and proof of railway employment on October 25.
The incident took place between 6.55 pm and 7 pm near Platforms 5 and 6, where Jignesh Vasantlal Bhavsar, a ticket-checking staff member posted at CSMT, was checking passenger tickets. During the check, a man claimed to be a railway employee. However, when Bhavsar asked him to show his railway identity card or any valid proof of employment, he allegedly refused and attempted to flee.
As Bhavsar tried to stop him, the man allegedly assaulted the on-duty staff member. The woman accompanying him also allegedly abused and manhandled the railway employee.
With the assistance of Railway Protection Force (RPF) personnel and other railway staff, the two passengers were taken to the Railway Police Station at CSMT. They were identified as Rishikesh Sanjay Pawar, 24, and Nikita Rishikesh Pawar, 23. According to Central Railway, neither of them could produce documents establishing that they were railway employees or show valid travel authority.
