The BMC has issued 29 stop-work notices and 270 show-cause notices to construction sites across Mumbai for failing to follow pollution mitigation guidelines up to October 22, signalling a stricter civic crackdown on construction dust and roadside pollution.
BMC commissioner Ashwini Bhide said developers and construction professionals were responsible for controlling dust both within construction sites and on adjoining roads. She directed civic officials to take strict action where preventive measures were not followed.
The highest number of show-cause notices was issued in N-ward, which covers Ghatkopar and Vidyavihar, where 105 construction sites were served notices. T-ward, covering Mulund and Nahur, accounted for another 52 notices, while 42 were issued in R-South ward, which includes Kandivli and Charkop.
The stop-work notices were concentrated in other parts of the city. K-South ward, covering parts of Andheri and Vile Parle (East), issued eight such notices, while K-North ward, which includes Jogeshwari East and parts of Andheri East, issued four.
