NAVI MUMBAI: A day after a 17-year-old college student survived a 70-foot plunge onto the Belapur-Uran railway tracks, CBD-Belapur police have registered an FIR against the 18-year-old owner of the Honda City for allegedly allowing his minor friend to drive the car despite knowing that he did not have a valid driving licence.
The car owner, identified as Pranav Gavhane of Sanpada, had recently purchased the second-hand sedan, which was registered in 2010.
Police have invoked relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and the Motor Vehicles Act against Gavhane.
Gavhane has not yet been summoned as police personnel are deployed for Ganpati immersion bandobast on Friday.
Under the provisions of law, he will be served a notice under the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS), senior inspector Arun Pawar of CBD-Belapur police said.
