Over October 30 and 31, Mumbai received scattered showers that mark the beginning of a rather rainy week. Officials from the India Meteorological Department (IMD) state that a light rain spell may go on for Mumbai and Maharashtra for the next 4-5 days. They said that the Santacruz observatory saw nearly 1 cm of rain as of Saturday morning, whereas areas like Vikhroli also received considerable showers of nearly 66 cm.
There is another system forming over the Bay of Bengal that might enter over Andhra Pradesh. Consequently, parts of Marathwada and Vidarbha are likely to see rain with parts of Konkan, Madhya Maharashtra, and Goa receiving scattered showers too," said Regional Meteorological Centre's (IMD Mumbai) head scientist Bikram Singh.
While the maximum temperature may be lower on cloudy days, the city is likely to slip into colder weather after the week as well. The city may also record lower AQI in the days to come, say officials.
Independent meteorologists say that the rains in Mumbai are likely to peak around November 2 and 3, while the rains are likely to subside on November 4. "Mumbai is likely to see this pattern of morning rains which will peak around midweek. However, it is too early to tell whether Diwali may be rainy for Mumbaikars," said Rushikesh Agre, an independent meteorologist.
