Mumbai local trains on the Western Railway suburban network will run according to their regular timetable on Sunday, November 8, 2026, after the railway announced that it would not impose the usual maintenance block during the Diwali period.
Western Railway said no maintenance block would be undertaken on its suburban section that Sunday. The decision is intended to avoid disruption for passengers travelling across Mumbai and its suburbs to meet family and friends during the festival.
Sunday maintenance blocks are generally used for essential engineering and infrastructure work on railway tracks and related systems. Their cancellation means commuters using the Western Railway suburban network will not need to plan around the usual block-related suspensions or service changes on November 8, according to the railway’s statement.
The announcement is relevant to passengers travelling between Mumbai and the city’s western suburbs, where suburban rail services form a central part of daily mobility. Diwali typically brings additional movement across the metropolitan region, including journeys to residential neighbourhoods, markets, railway stations and family homes. Western Railway said the decision was taken to support comfortable and convenient travel during the festive period.
