Ranenagar underpass expansion 90 per cent over, mid-Nov launch likelyThe construction of two additional service road lanes over Ranenagar vehicular underpass (VUP) on Mumbai-Agra highway is 90 per cent complete and is likely to be opened to traffic by mid-Nov, National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) officials said on Friday.
The project is currently in its testing phase. The officials said the additional lanes would be opened to the public as soon as the traffic police granted approval for diverting vehicles onto the new stretch. Meanwhile, drilling work for an additional tunnel at the nearby Indiranagar VUP is also scheduled to begin by mid-Nov, with a completion deadline set for the March-end.
Work on adding the two lanes at Ranenagar underpass started in June 2025 to address worsening traffic congestion. Due to rapid residential and commercial development along the highway, the underpass has seen a heavy, continuous flow of vehicles.
Previously, motorists driving straight along parallel service roads frequently became trapped in crossover traffic generated by vehicles turning through the underpass or merging from adjoining Ranenagar chowk roads.
