With employment emerging as a key issue for young voters, the Maharashtra government is set to launch the ‘Pandit Deendayal Upadhyay Vishwavikrami Rojgar Mahakumbh’ on September 29, bringing together job seekers, companies and government agencies in a large-scale employment drive.
Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis will inaugurate the initiative at SNDT Women’s University in Churchgate, Mumbai.
The programme has been planned by the Skill Development, Employment, Entrepreneurship and Innovation Department, headed by minister Mangal Prabhat Lodha. The initiative is being presented by the government as a direct effort to connect young people with jobs rather than limiting employment support to training programmes.
The first phase will focus on the Konkan and Nashik divisions, covering 12 districts, including Mumbai city, Mumbai suburban, Thane, Palghar, Raigad, Ratnagiri, Sindhudurg, Nashik, Ahilyanagar, Jalgaon, Dhule and Nandurbar.
More than 400 employment fairs and placement drives are planned across these districts, with over 25,000 job opportunities expected to be made available. Officials have said more than 1,500 companies and over 3,000 establishments will participate.
