Zepto warehouse in Surat fined ₹25,000 over expired food stock
Reported by DesGujarat
Surat: The Surat Municipal Corporation’s (SMC) Health and Food Department has taken action against Zepto Limited after finding expired and stale food items at its dark store in the Jalaram Society area of Gorat.
Acting on complaints from local residents, food safety officials conducted a surprise inspection at the warehouse and found 60 litres of expired Sumul buttermilk along with stale and expired bread packets that were reportedly kept for delivery to customers.
The officials seized the unfit food items and destroyed them on the spot following prescribed procedures to prevent them from reaching consumers.
The SMC has imposed a ₹25,000 fine on Zepto for violations related to food safety and hygiene norms. A show-cause notice has also been issued to the company’s management, seeking an explanation for the lapses in food storage and sanitation at the facility.
The action comes amid growing scrutiny of quick-commerce platforms over the quality and storage of food products sold through their delivery networks. DeshGujarat
