Gulabsinh, who runs a tea stall in Ahmedabad said, “Sugar prices have risen by ₹25 per kg to ₹70. With input costs increasing, selling half a cup of tea for ₹15 is no longer viable. The price may have to be raised to ₹18-20.”
Another tea stall operator said a 50-kg bag of sugar, which earlier cost around ₹2,200, now costs ₹3,650. Besides sugar, rising labour wages, cooking gas and shop rent have also increased the overall cost of running tea stalls.
