A group of 14 pilgrims from Gujarat, stranded in the Kedarnath region of Uttarakhand for two days due to heavy rainfall and landslides, were rescued after an emotional video posted by a Surat woman seeking help went viral on social media, as per The Indian Express report.
The group, which included Surat resident Ranjanben Panchal and her family members, had travelled to Kedarnath as part of a 12-day pilgrimage. Trouble began when continuous rainfall triggered landslides along the trekking route, leaving thousands of pilgrims stranded and damaging access paths in the area.
According to Panchal, the group had started their journey from Ahmedabad on September 21 and began the trek to Kedarnath from the base camp on Saturday. However, worsening weather conditions and landslides cut off their route back, leaving them stranded near the shrine.
In a video recorded amid the difficult conditions, Panchal appealed to the Gujarat government for assistance. Fighting back tears, she urged authorities to help her group and other pilgrims trapped in the region due to the relentless rain.
The video quickly gained traction on social media, drawing attention to the plight of stranded devotees. Panchal also highlighted the challenging conditions faced by pilgrims, showing people sheltering in tents under fog-covered mountains while waiting for help, according to report.
