Customs officials at Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport in Ahmedabad arrested a resident of Surat after seizing 973.23 grams of hydroponic cannabis smuggled aboard a flight from Bangkok.
The Air Intelligence Unit (AIU) intercepted the passenger shortly after Thai Airways flight TG 343 touched down on September 29. Officers targeted the traveller based on Advance Passenger Information System (APIS) profiling data, pulling him aside for detailed screening before he could exit the terminal.
A search of the passenger’s cabin baggage revealed a paper carry bag containing two large plastic wrappers. Upon tearing them open, customs staff discovered 30 smaller branded sachets falsely labelled as "Dehydrated Guava".
A physical inspection of the sachets exposed a dense, greenish herbal substance inside. Field tests conducted using standard Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) kits confirmed the material was high-grade hydroponic marijuana.
Officers recorded the total weight of the seized contraband at 973.23 grams. The AIU formally confiscated the narcotics and took the Surat passenger into custody under provisions of the NDPS Act, 1985.
