Supported by subsidies under the PM Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana, rooftop solar adoption in India has gained significant momentum, particularly in the residential segment, as households increasingly turn to solar power to reduce electricity costs.
According to the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy, India supported rooftop solar installations for over 5 million households under PM Surya Ghar since its launch in February 2024.
Shreepad Park Arena , a residential housing complex in Surat, Gujarat, has installed a 612.69 kW rooftop solar project across eight residential towers, yielding ₹5.05 million (~$52,180) in annual electricity cost savings.
The ₹28.55 million (~$295,000) project received a total subsidy of ₹12.25 million (~$126,535) for 157 eligible rooftop systems under the PM Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana.
The solar systems can offset approximately 100% of the participating households’ annual electricity requirements on a net-metering basis.
