SURAT : After a 25-year-long demand, Surat is finally set to get its own postal region, with the Central Government approving a regional office headed by a Postmaster General. The decision is expected to decentralise postal administration, improve operational efficiency and strengthen services across South Gujarat, a rapidly expanding industrial and commercial belt.
The Department of Posts, under the Union Ministry of Communications, approved the restructuring of the Gujarat Circle through an office memorandum dated October 12, 2026. Surat will become the headquarters of the new region, which will be carved out of the existing Vadodara region. The new administrative structure is scheduled to take effect from November 1.
The decision has brought relief and excitement among postal employees and union representatives who have campaigned for the region for decades.
