SURAT : With Diwali approaching, more than 20 diamond workers in Surat are allegedly struggling to recover months of unpaid wages after a Varachha-based diamond unit shut down and its owner became unreachable. The Diamond Workers’ Union Gujarat (DWUG) has lodged a police complaint against Kirtibhai Govindbhai Vagadiya, who operates Maruti Nandan Diamond in the Savani area of Varachha, seeking legal action over the alleged withholding of workers’ earnings.
According to the union’s complaint, the workers have not received their wages for the past two months, with approximately ₹10 lakh reportedly outstanding. The union has accused the owner of shutting the factory without settling the dues and subsequently switching off his mobile phone.
The complaint alleges that the workers continued to perform their duties but were left without their hard-earned money just before the festive season. The allegations are yet to be established through a police investigation.
