SURAT: After enduring nearly two years of sluggish business, uncertainty and prolonged Diwali shutdowns, Surat’s diamond industry is finally witnessing a revival, with improved market...
Unlike the previous two to three years, when factories remained closed for nearly a month amid weak demand and financial pressures, diamond units are preparing to continue operations until November 5, a day before Dhanteras. Industry stakeholders are also expecting factories to reopen earlier, driven by encouraging market sentiment and a strong order pipeline.
A major factor behind the improved business activity is advance orders for the December Christmas shopping season. Diamond manufacturers have reportedly received substantial orders, prompting factories and polishing units to operate at full capacity to meet delivery deadlines.
The market situation is considerably better compared to the previous two years. Economic activity has picked up, and factories are receiving advance orders for the Christmas season. This is why there is little possibility of an extended Diwali vacation this year,” said a diamond industry leader.
Industry representatives believe the shorter shutdown reflects renewed confidence among manufacturers and exporters, who had been struggling with weak international demand and pressure on employment during the prolonged slowdown.
