Reported by Bhaskar English
However, during this entire incident, as stones were being pelted, the police resorted to a lathi-charge to disperse the crowd. The video of which has now gone viral. On the other hand, the police have registered a case for forming an illegal assembly with a pre-planned conspiracy and carrying out an attack.
A large number of migrant workers work in areas including Embroidery, Sai Embro, Vedant, and Anjani Industries. For the past few days, workers had circulated a message on social media about observing a strike on Sunday to get their demands met.
As a precautionary measure to prevent any untoward incident, Amroli and Jahangirpura police and staff had arranged intensive patrolling and security arrangements in various industrial areas.
A mob of about 500 workers gathered near the Vedant Industries crossroads. Crime Branch and local police officers present at the scene appealed to the people with announcements on the microphone to bring the situation under control.
Police explained that gathering in this manner without any permission is illegal, and if they have any grievances, they should present them peacefully and legally, and not take the law into their own hands. However, instead of heeding the police, the agitated mob became aggressive and pelted stones at the police.
