Parole jumpers held over threat to Gujarat courts: Accused sent hoax emails to skip hearing; nabbed by Ahme

Police said the accused, both previously booked in NDPS cases, allegedly hatched the conspiracy to disrupt pending legal proceedings and avoid a court appearance.

The emails were sent on 5 September at 11:57 am and 11:59 am from a newly created email ID.

Both had earlier been lodged together in Lajpore Jail. Asfaq was facing an NDPS case involving 512 grams of hybrid ganja, while Rajesh was booked in an NDPS case involving 100.260 grams of mephedrone.

Asfaq had come out on parole but allegedly failed to return to jail after the parole period and remained absconding. The duo later travelled to Chennai in search of a ganja supplier. While there, they allegedly planned to send the threat email to create panic, disrupt court proceedings and avoid Asfaq’s appearance.

Police said Asfaq created a new email ID while travelling by train from Mumbai to Chennai. The two then stayed at different hotels and repeatedly changed locations. They allegedly used different networks, SIM cards registered in other persons’ names, Wi-Fi connections and technical methods to conceal their identity and location.
