Owaisi enters Surat fish market name row: Says ‘They oppose eating fish, but name it Narendra Modi Fish Mar
Reported by Bhaskar English
The ₹3.90-crore market was named the "Shri Narendra Modi Wholesale Fish Market" despite no resolution reportedly being passed for the naming.
AIMIM chief and Hyderabad MP Asaduddin Owaisi criticised the Gujarat and central governments over the issue during a public meeting in Hyderabad.
Taking a dig at the name, Owaisi said that while people are told not to eat fish, a fish market built with crores of rupees has been named after Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
He sarcastically remarked that those who came to "catch" people with a fishing line ended up getting caught themselves.
Owaisi claimed that the Centre and Gujarat government had each contributed around ₹3 crore towards the market under the Pradhan Mantri Matsya Sampada Yojana, taking the total project cost to around ₹6 crore.
