While the nation was commemorating Bapu's birth anniversary, the elected MP's gaffe became a major topic of discussion.
A special Gandhi Vandana programme was organised at Surat's historic Gandhi Bagh to mark Gandhi Jayanti. Surat Lok Sabha MP Mukesh Dalal was present at the programme to place a thread garland around Mahatma Gandhi's statue and offer floral tributes.
Surat city Bharatiya Janata Party president Paresh Patel, Municipal Corporation Standing Committee chairman Rajan Patel and other senior office-bearers and leaders were also present at the important programme.
After completing the programme by placing a cotton-thread garland around the statue of Mahatma Gandhi, MP Mukesh Dalal began speaking to the media but suddenly forgot the significance of this historic day.
The MP began his statement with a major error. He said, "2 October marks the death anniversary of the revered Father of the Nation, Mahatma Gandhi." He did not stop there and further stated, "The Bharatiya Janata Party has also organised various programmes on the occasion of this death anniversary."
