No brooms in warehouse of No. 1 clean municipality: Stock exhausted for 2 months; sanitation workers forced
Reported by Bhaskar English
There have been no brooms in the warehouse for the past two months, while officials sit in air-conditioned chambers and merely keep claiming that purchase orders have been issued.
We went to the ground and heard the plight of sanitation workers working on the roads amid scorching heat and rain, exposing the administration's high-handedness. Complaints about piles of garbage have increased due to the lack of brooms, long-handled brooms and brushes.
Finding a broom is your problem' A sanitation worker exposed the administration's high-handedness, saying, "When we ask the mukadam and sanitary inspector for brooms, they give us an arrogant response: 'The stock has not arrived from above; what can we do? Finding a broom is your problem for now. We only want our ward to be spotlessly clean.' The officials only want to show in the reports that everything is fine."
We have to cut into our own stomachs to bring brooms" A female sanitation worker said, "We have not received any brooms for the past two months. If we do not bring brooms and the work is not done properly, the supervisor threatens to mark us absent. So, out of compulsion, we have to cut into our own budgets and buy brooms."
