Mumbai-Ahmedabad bullet train: From underground BKC to diamond-inspired Surat station

With the Mumbai-Ahmedabad Bullet Train project's expected launch in August 2027 approaching, fresh visuals from the under-construction stations in Mumbai and Surat show different stages of progress on India's first high-speed rail corridor.

In Mumbai, construction is continuing at the Bandra Kurla Complex (BKC) station, which will serve as the starting point of the corridor. Unlike the other stations on the route, the terminal is being constructed nearly 30 metres underground, making it one of the project's most technically challenging sections. Excavation and foundation work at the site are nearing completion.

In Gujarat, the Surat station is at a more advanced stage. Its structural framework and roofing have been completed, with work now moving to interior finishing, including flooring, cladding and ceiling installation. The station's design draws inspiration from Surat's diamond-cutting industry, reflecting the city's commercial identity.

The Mumbai-Ahmedabad Bullet Train will operate on a dedicated 508-km high-speed rail corridor connecting Mumbai and Ahmedabad through Maharashtra, Gujarat and the Union Territory of Dadra & Nagar Haveli. The corridor will connect several major business and industrial hubs and will have 12 stations.
