Mumbai-Ahmedabad Bullet Train: 30-metre-deep BKC station nears finish line, Surat station takes shape

Construction of the Mumbai-Ahmedabad Bullet Train corridor is progressing steadily across Maharashtra and Gujarat, with two of the project's most technically challenging stations reaching key milestones, according to a News18 report. Work at the Bandra Kurla Complex (BKC) terminal in Mumbai and the Surat station in Gujarat has advanced significantly in recent months.

The BKC terminal, which will serve as the southern starting point of the 508-km high-speed rail corridor, is being built nearly 30 metres underground. The report said this makes it one of the most demanding sections of the entire project. Excavation and foundation work at the site are now nearing completion, marking a significant stage in the development of the underground station.

In Gujarat, the Surat station has moved further along in its construction timeline. Its structural framework and roofing have been completed, and work has now shifted to interior finishing, including flooring, cladding and ceiling installation. As per the report, the station's design draws inspiration from Surat's renowned diamond-cutting industry, reflecting the city's commercial identity through its architecture.
