Massive Fire at Surat's Salasar Market Sparks Panic After Second Blaze in a Week

Firefighters battled for hours to bring a massive blaze under control after a short circuit triggered a major fire at the Salasar Textile Market in Surat's Saroli area.

The fire broke out suddenly within the market premises, quickly engulfing multiple commercial units. The substantial inventory of synthetic and cotton cloth stored across the commercial hub acted as a rapid accelerant, allowing the flames to take on a ferocious form within minutes. Dense smoke billowing from the complex caused immediate panic among shopkeepers, workers, and visitors, leading to a frantic rush to evacuate the building.

Upon receiving the initial alert, the local fire brigade dispatched a convoy of vehicles and emergency personnel from 10 different fire stations across the city. Responding crews quickly surrounded the structure, spraying continuous high-pressure water jets from multiple angles to isolate the flames and prevent them from spreading to adjacent commercial blocks.

Owing to the massive volume of combustible textile material housed inside the shops, emergency personnel had to work relentlessly under arduous conditions to bring the situation under control. Officials confirmed that no casualties or injuries were reported, and no individuals were trapped inside the premises. Preliminary findings indicate that an electrical short circuit ignited the blaze.
