New Delhi, Oct 1 (PTI) A 32-year-old man was apprehended from Gujarat’s Surat for allegedly cheating a Delhi resident of around Rs 25 lakh on the pretext of arranging US dollars at a lower rate, police said on Thursday.
The accused, Ferin Harshadrai Patel, was arrested following an investigation involving CCTV footage and surveillance, they said.
New Delhi Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Sachin Sharma said Patel allegedly introduced himself to Panchal as “Chirag Patel” and claimed to have contacts at the US Embassy and JLL Company.
He allegedly gained the complainant’s confidence by promising to facilitate employment for his daughter-in-law at JLL and offered to arrange US dollars at a lower rate, which could later be exchanged at a gain, the officer said.
According to police, Panchal gave around Rs 25 lakh in cash to Patel, who said he would be meeting an Embassy or Consulate contact for dollar conversion.
