Jaynil, Filzah rule the roost in Surat

Rajkot’s Jaynil Mehta toppled top seed Abhilash Raval, defeating the Ahmedabad paddler 11-8, 4-11, 11-9, 11-6, 16-14 to clinch the men’s title at the 5th Gujarat State Ranking Table Tennis Tournament on Sunday.

Surat’s sixth seed Filzahfatema Kadri delighted the home crowd by beating Ahmedabad’s fourth seed Mouboni Chatterjee 4-1 in the women’s final for her first title of the season. Top seed Pratha Pawar, meanwhile, defeated Riya Jayswal 4-2 to win the U-19 girls’ crown.

Janmejay Patel overcame a two-game deficit to beat Abhilaksh Patel 4-3 in the U-19 boys’ final. The victory extended his unbeaten streak and earned him a fifth consecutive U-19 title this season.

Ahmedabad’s Malav Panchal edged Vadodara’s Ved Panchal 3-2 in a thriller to win the U-17 boys’ title, while Ahmedabad’s Ansh Khamar swept Dhruv Bhambhani 3-0 for the U-15 crown. Surat’s Daniya Godil completed a double by winning the U-17 and U-15 girls’ titles, beating Vincy Tanna 3-0 in both finals.

Kachchh’s 10-year-old Rehansh Singhvi also struck a double, winning the U-13 and U-11 boys’ titles.
