Industrialists from the textile, chemical, and engineering sectors of Surat and South Gujarat have set up captive solar plants with a capacity of approximately 1000 MW at a massive cost of approximately 4.25 crores per 1 MW to make their factory electricity bills zero.

Across the region, industries have made a capital investment of approximately 4250 crore rupees at their own risk and through bank loans.

However, despite solar energy receiving the legal status of 'Must Run' under the Union Ministry of Power and the Indian Electricity Grid Code (IEGC), for the last 1 year, instructions to stop generation (curtailment) are being given by DGVCL (Dakshin Gujarat Vij Company Limited) through SLDC (State Load Dispatch Center) during peak hours in the afternoon.
