Ahmedabad: The Surat City Cyber Crime Cell has arrested two alleged money mule operators from Jharkhand after tracing a Rs 10.65 lakh APK-based cyber fraud, with investigators uncovering suspicious transactions exceeding Rs 65 lakh across the bank accounts allegedly used to route cybercrime proceeds.
The arrests were made following a four-day operation in Giridih district, around 1,800 km from Surat, after technical analysis and financial investigation led police to the interstate network.
The operation was conducted with assistance from local police and personnel from two police stations.
The case stems from a complaint lodged after an unidentified fraudster allegedly gained unauthorised access to a complainant's ICICI Bank account on November 2 last year, between 11 a.m. and noon.
Police said the victim had unknowingly installed a malicious APK file received through WhatsApp or SMS, allowing the fraudsters to access SMS messages, one-time passwords (OTPs) and banking information before transferring Rs 10,65,375.98 through multiple transactions.
