Golden opportunity for Surat textile industry: Dubai offers mill owners global market access at 0% duty ami

Reported by Bhaskar English

A high-level delegation from the Dubai government visited Surat and held a meeting with more than 450 prominent mill owners. The delegation presented offers for setting up businesses in Dubai and expanding into global markets.

According to the proposal presented to the industry, businesses can set up units or offices close to the airport, with access to land at competitive rates and supporting infrastructure.

The biggest attraction, according to the delegation and industry representatives, is Dubai’s trade access to international markets. While exports from India to markets such as the US can attract import duties of up to 18%, goods shipped through Dubai could reach several international markets at zero duty under applicable trade agreements, potentially making Surat’s textiles more competitive.

The Dubai delegation gave Surat industrialists a detailed presentation on setting up businesses in the emirate.

It said facilities would be available for non-polluting businesses and trading units. Surat entrepreneurs would be able to set up operations through a single-window system, with land, ready-to-use office spaces and the required government approvals available at competitive rates.
