SURAT : While the Gujarat Health Department is under pressure to crack down on bogus doctors endangering public health, the presentation of an ‘Ayurved Seva Ratna’ award to a man reportedly arrested in a previous case has exposed serious questions about verification and accountability. The award was presented by State Minister Praful Pansheriya at a Surat conference on October 4, 2026, before being withdrawn amid mounting criticism.
The controversy erupted after the recipient’s alleged background came to light, triggering outrage among members of the medical community. The man had reportedly been arrested by the Navsari Special Operations Group (SOG) and faced a criminal case. More than 57 Ayurvedic practitioners have reportedly submitted a complaint to the National Commission for Indian System of Medicine (NCISM), seeking a high-level inquiry into the selection process.
The ‘Vande Ayucon-3’ conference was organised in collaboration with the Southern Gujarat Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SGCCI) and attended by around 1,200 doctors. Minister of State for Home Harsh Sanghavi was also present.
