Acting on a tip-off, police raided the premises and arrested 72-year-old widow Manchhiben Dahyabhai Lalubhai Khalasi, who was allegedly involved in selling liquor despite having multiple previous prohibition cases against her.
Police searched the open compound behind the accused’s house and recovered a stock of Indian-made foreign liquor and beer that had allegedly been concealed there.
A total of 178 bottles and tins were seized, with the contraband valued at around ₹26,068. Police confiscated the stock and initiated legal proceedings.
According to police, “Khalasi is a habitual offender and already has around 23 prohibition cases registered against her at Sachin GIDC, Bhestan and Khatodara police stations. Despite the previous cases, she continued operating the illegal liquor business.”
Sachin GIDC Police have registered a case under Section 65(E) of the Prohibition Act and are investigating the source of the seized liquor as well as the involvement of other bootleggers in the supply network.
