Elderly Man Held Over Molestation Charge in Surat Civil Hospital

Senior Citizen Held in Surat Following Molestation Charge Outside Public Wards Angry bystanders confronted a senior citizen on the grounds of Surat Civil Hospital on Tuesday after a young woman accused him of molesting her in broad daylight near the out-patient department.

The woman, who had visited the state-run facility for medical treatment, raised an alarm when the man allegedly made unwanted physical advances. Her screams alerted patients and visitors nearby, who quickly gathered and cornered the accused.

As tension escalated outside the busy hospital corridors, individuals in the crowd subjected the elderly man to public humiliation, forcing him to eat raw fenugreek seeds ( methi ) as a form of instant punishment before law enforcement could arrive.

Recognising the risk of mob violence, the victim dialed the emergency police helpline number 112 to report the assault and request urgent protection.

A patrol team stationed near the hospital complex arrived and intervening just as the situation threatened to turn violent. Officers pulled the suspect away from the hostile crowd and took him into police custody.
