Reported by Bhaskar English
According to the preliminary investigation, Roli had developed a strong habit of using a mobile phone. On the afternoon of the incident, she asked her mother for the phone, but her mother refused and took it with her to work.
Police suspect that Roli may have taken the extreme step after becoming upset over the incident. Varachha police have registered a case of accidental death and begun further investigation.
Vijaybhai Kushwaha, originally from Morena district in Madhya Pradesh, lives with his family in Varachha, Surat. He works as a mason and supports his wife, three daughters and a son. His wife also works as a labourer at a Hot Fix unit near their home to supplement the family income.
Roli, the eldest of their children, was 11 years old. She had studied up to Class 5 in her hometown and was currently studying in Class 6 in Surat.
On the afternoon of the incident, their mother went to work with her son, while Roli's two younger sisters were playing on the veranda outside the house. During this time, Roli reportedly locked the door from inside, tied a dupatta to the clothesline and hanged herself.
