A habitual accused involved in the ₹1.86 lakh cyber fraud case registered at Amreli City Police Station, who had been evading the police for the past one year, has finally been arrested by the Surat Crime Branch.
Thirty-one-year-old Mohsin Ziauddin Nawaz, originally from Devkali village in Uttar Pradesh's Ghazipur district and currently residing in Surat's Un Patia area, was an active member of a gang that carried out cyber fraud by misusing technology and banking systems.
He rented bank accounts belonging to innocent people and conducted transactions through them to transfer the money obtained through cybercrime. As soon as the case was registered in Amreli, he repeatedly changed his residence and went underground to evade arrest.
A major criminal modus operandi has been uncovered during the intensive interrogation of arrested accused Mohsin. Around two years ago, he started a grey cloth trading business in partnership with Jitendra Upadhyay at Saroli in Surat, under the name 'Upadhyay Enterprise'.
However, the cloth business was merely a front. In reality, Jitendra and his friend Manoj Devraj Trapsiya obtained bank kits (passbooks, ATMs and chequebooks) on rent from various people.
