Surat: A 25-year-old content creator, Samiullah Shaikh, was arrested after a joint operation by the Government Railway Police (GRP) and Railway Protection Force (RPF) for allegedly impersonating a travelling ticket examiner (TTE) and checking passengers’ tickets at Surat railway station to film an Instagram reel.
Shaikh, a resident of Limbayat, allegedly entered the railway premises without authorisation on Sunday, dressed as a TTE, and filmed the act on Platform 2. The video later went viral on Instagram.
Railway authorities acted on a complaint received through X from the Mumbai division’s Divisional Security Control Room (DSCR). The police traced Shaikh and apprehended him in the Limbayat-Udhna area.
During questioning, he reportedly admitted to making the video for entertainment and uploading it to Instagram and YouTube. Although the reel carried a disclaimer warning viewers against impersonating railway officials, it also showed him exchanging money with passengers.
The railway police registered a case against Shaikh for allegedly trespassing on railway premises, impersonating a TTE and creating a nuisance. DeshGujarat
