The incident was recorded on video and later shared on social media, where it attracted widespread attention and criticism of the airline's handling of passengers.
Passenger Tarun Mishra said his Air India Express flight was originally scheduled to depart from Surat at 3.30 pm but was later rescheduled to 6.38 pm. He said he reached the airport before the boarding time, between 5.40 pm and 5.50 pm.
According to Mishra, around 10 minutes were spent at the airport's main entrance for Aadhaar verification. He said he reached the final boarding gate at around 6.15 pm.
Mishra claimed that neither an announcement nor a phone call was made to alert him about any issue with boarding.
Mishra said he was accompanied by two other passengers, including a foreign woman. According to him, the woman broke down after her onward travel plans were affected, but the airline staff allegedly did not respond sympathetically.
