After Gujarat High Court Rebuke, Surat Civic Body Begins
Reported by Gujarat Samachar
AI-Image Surat Municipal Corporation will hold a housing draw for 28 families affected by the Nasir Nagar demolition, months after the Gujarat High Court criticised the civic body's handling of the case.
The draw, scheduled to be conducted by the Central Zone in the presence of the affected families, marks the beginning of the process to provide alternative housing to people who were left homeless after a large-scale demolition drive.
One family has already been allotted accommodation at Bhestan Housing and has therefore been excluded from the draw.
For many others, however, the wait is not over. Around 40 affected families are still living at the Katargam Community Hall, while several others have moved into rented accommodation after losing their homes.
The Central Zone is expected to conduct the draw for 28 eligible families from the available housing stock.
