The school first announced three confirmed and two probable cases on Sept. 18 among what it described only as an athletic team.
The San Diego Union-Tribune later identified the team as football. By Oct. 1, Field Level Media reported the count had risen to 14 confirmed cases and one probable case, according to county health officials.
NBC 7 San Diego said only one associated case involved someone outside the team.
Mumps symptoms can develop 12 to 25 days after exposure, so the newer cases reflect spread within the team and possible exposure for more close contacts.
The school worked with San Diego County Public Health Services on daily screenings, testing and contact tracing, and it offered an extra MMR booster dose to people identified as close contacts. A free booster clinic was set up on campus Thursday.
