The San Diego Padres have a new ownership group, and this upcoming offseason, they're going to be tested right away with a few key names hitting the open market at the same time.
Adrian Morejon's free agency will be very interesting, especially with Mason Miller already anchoring the bullpen. But there's another pitcher set to hit the open market that's going to be a very interesting question for this Padres' front office.
Michael King, the Padres' postseason hero, is likely to opt out of his current deal and will likely land a massive contract this offseason. Bleacher Report's Joel Reuter is predicting that King will land a massive $120 million deal this offseason.
Predicted contract: 5 years, $120 million," Reuter predicts. "Robbie Ray signed a five-year, $115 million deal following his Cy Young season in 2021. His earning power was somewhat limited by an inconsistent track record. With only two full seasons as a starter under his belt and injury issues in 2025, King has a comparable free agency outlook."
King landing a $120 million deal over five years would be a significant raise from his $75 million three-year contract he signed last offseason to return to the Padres.
