SAN DIEGO (FOX 5/KUSI) — A motorcyclist suffered an open fracture to his elbow in a collision with a vehicle in the Lake Murray neighborhood Wednesday, authorities said. According to the San Diego Police Department, the crash was reported around 4:20 p.m. in the 8800 block of Navajo Road.
Police said a 54-year-old woman was driving a 2013 Jeep Rubicon westbound in the middle lane when she made "an unsafe lane change" into the right lane, directly into the path of a 74-year-old man riding a 2026 Yamaha XSR900 motorcycle. The motorcycle collided with the Jeep, causing the rider to leave the roadway and strike a metal trash can at a bust stop.
The rider was then ejected from the motorcycle and struck a pole. The man was transported to a local hospital with an open fracture to his elbow. His injuries were considered non-life-threatening, according to police. Alcohol was not a factor in the collision, authorities said.
SDPD's Traffic Division is investigating the crash. Anyone with information about the collision is encouraged to contact police or call Crime Stoppers at 888-580-8477.
