County Sheriff Kelly Martinez is asking for almost $11 million from to complete an ongoing renovation of the downtown jail. A contract will be considered by supervisors Tuesday that would raise the cost of the jail upgrade already underway to more than $39 million dollars.
The Sheriff says it would help fulfill her pledge to upgrade the aging San Diego County jails.
County supervisors are being asked to approve the contract on a no-bid basis to reduce costs and delays if a different contractor were to be hired.
