Follow along here for live updates from Washington State (1-7) vs. San Diego State (3-5) as the Cougs travel to California looking for their first Pac-12 conference win of the season.
San Diego State won the coin toss and deferred to the second half. Washington State will start with the football.
The Cougar offense opened the game with a promising drive, highlighted by a 15-yard pass completion from redshirt-freshman quarterback Owen Eshelman to redshirt-junior wide receiver Branden Ganashamoorthy. An Eshelman nine-yard run set the Cougs up with a 4th and 1 on the San Diego State 21-yard line, but Cougar running back Kirby Vorhees was stood up for no gain on fourth down, giving the ball to SDSU.
The Aztecs ripped off a 46-yard rush from running back Lucky Sutton to bring the ball to the WSU 29-yard line. A few plays later, running back Javion Kinnard rushed for a nine-yard touchdown to put the Aztecs up 7-0 with 7:18 left in the first quarter.
The Eshelman to Ganashamoorthy connection was on full display on the Cougars' second drive of the game as they connected for two more completions for a total of 38 yards. The nine-play, 75-yard WSU drive culminated in an Eshelman four-yard rushing touchdown to knot the score at 7-7.
