SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — Friars Road was shut down for hours between Sea World Drive and at Napa Street Wednesday after a San Diego police officer fatally shot a man who authorities say approached the officer with an axe after allegedly vandalizing a trolley at the Linda Vista station.
San Diego Police say an officer-involved shooting happened at around 3:30 p.m. near the 4700 block of Friars Road.
The shooting drew a significant law enforcement response, leaving yellow police tape and patrol vehicles lining the typically busy roadway well into the night. Residents who witnessed the scene said the incident was unsettling, though some described concerns about problems they have seen in the surrounding area.
Terrell Moody, a Morena resident, said he initially wasn't sure what had happened when he saw the police activity.
I wasn't sure if it was a car accident or something like that, and now being able to see it clearly is very unfortunate,” Moody said.
