The Department of Otolaryngology at the University of California San Diego School of Medicine welcomed three new assistant professors this fall: Krish Suresh, MD , Robert Saddawi-Konefka , MD, PhD, and Yu Jin Lee , MD. They bring specialized surgical expertise and research interests that support the institution’s patient care, discovery and educational missions.
Krish, Robert and Yu Jin bring expertise that strengthens our departmental clinical expertise and creates new opportunities for lines of research and collaboration,” said Philip Weissbrod, MD, professor and chair of the Department of Otolaryngology. “We’re excited to support each of them as they strive to push our field forward.”
An otologist, neurotologist and skull-base surgeon at UC San Diego Health, Suresh specializes in the surgical management of ear disorders and acoustic neuroma. His clinical interests include acoustic neuroma, cochlear implantation, chronic ear disease and conditions affecting the structures involved in hearing and balance.
The variety of surgical techniques and the potential to preserve, improve and restore hearing drew Suresh to the specialty. His work can range from creating an opening smaller than a millimeter in the inner ear during a stapedectomy to accessing a skull-base tumor through a much larger opening in the skull.
